Like brothers

As a good fate, as a natural course, there are villages formed by people who originally have different hometowns, who do not know each other. Then as if by fate, they become neighbors, as close as blood relatives. That is the story in Dai Thuy village, Tan Lien commune, Huong Hoa district (now Tan Lap commune), Quang Tri province.

The Pioneers

I once went to the highlands of Huong Hoa to learn about a village of two new hometowns that was born in 1986, less than 40 years ago - a new village, born late, can be considered the best in Quang Tri province. So the story over a pot of green tea gradually became stronger according to the stories of the people involved.

Mr. Vo Xuan Hang, the head of Dai Thuy village, is also an elderly man at 70 years old, but his appearance is still strong and sharp. Sitting in front of the village's altar, he pondered for a moment, remembering the not-so-distant past.

He said: “I am from Le Thuy, the old Quang Binh province, I used to fight in the army here, I used to know Khe Sanh-Huong Hoa land. After returning home from the army, seeing that my village was crowded with people, I remembered the red soil of Huong Hoa, so I discussed the matter of migration with some enthusiastic brothers. Because the decision to leave the village to start a business was a big deal, even very important. After discussing and agreeing, the five of us came here from Le Thuy.”

Mr. Hang continued: “Here, surrounded by hills and mountains, with streams and ravines, the terrain is easily fragmented, especially during the rainy season. At night, lying in a shack or temporary house, listening to the sound of insects, missing home, missing our homeland... But we encouraged each other to stay, no matter how difficult or arduous it was, we could not give up halfway.”

Seeming to see his own shadow in it, Mr. Nguyen Cuu Can contributed: “We are from Trieu Dai commune, old Trieu Phong district. Shortly after Le Thuy brothers came here, we also followed the call of the Party and the State to go to the new economic zone in the highlands of Huong Hoa. At first, there were quite a lot of us, but then it became too difficult, some people could not survive and had to return to their hometowns or go to the South. So people from both hometowns worked together, helped each other in times of need, shared joys and sorrows.”

Mr. Hang smiled: “The name of the village is a combination of two different hometowns, “Dai” refers to Trieu Dai, “Thuy” reminds us of Le Thuy, so the new village name is Dai Thuy. People with the same fate of leaving their hometown to go to the new economic zone, establishing a new village, living together like a bowl full of water”.

New home now

Walking in Dai Thuy today, you will see a village with many improvements. Concrete roads connecting the upper and lower villages, spacious schools, solid houses. All of them evoke a feeling of peace and prosperity. Mr. Vo Van Dung, who was then the Party Secretary and Head of Dai Thuy Village, said: "In general, people's lives are stable and prosperous, many households are doing well, there are almost no poor households, people, although from different hometowns, live in harmony and affection."

Coming to Dai Thuy today, you will see a prosperous and peaceful village in the Huong Hoa highlands. Few people would expect that decades ago this place was a remote and deserted countryside.

Moreover, people from two hometowns, who had never known each other, shared joys and sorrows, created a young village full of determination and vitality, opening up opportunities for future generations.

There is a proverb that says: “People are the flowers of the earth” is true and appropriate for Dai Thuy village, with its simple and honest people, who wrote the history of the new countryside with their own hands. It was they, not anyone else, who made the history of a village as its founder.

Knowing that life still has many challenges, but believing that with such pure hearts, there is certainly no difficulty that can overcome them. And the future is in the hands of those with determination, even if they do not have to move mountains and fill seas, they are still capable of mastering their own destiny because they are always dedicated, devoted and devoted. Dai Thuy today has merged with Tan Phu village, but even if the name has changed, the human love remains the same.

Uncle Ho repeatedly reminded us of the secret to the victory of the revolution: “Unity, unity, great unity. Success, success, great success”. That is not only a propaganda slogan but also a command of life, a call from the country, from the sacred spirit of the nation, from the deep call from conscience.

All matters, from small to large, must be based on unity, shared aspirations and goals to be successful, including major national events such as province separation and province merger, requiring all hearts to be one with all sincerity. Dai Thuy is prosperous and united, Dai Thuy has been and is writing a new beautiful chapter in the loyal love of Quang Tri - Quang Binh when the two homelands are facing the historic opportunity to be reunited under one roof.
