On February 4, 2025, within the framework of the working session between Viettel and Nokia, the two sides discussed the application of artificial intelligence (AI) to improve efficiency and optimize telecommunications equipment.

Nokia Southeast Asia Director Hiroyuki Miura congratulated Viettel on its achievements over the past year, and affirmed that the close cooperation between the two sides has brought about clear results. Mr. Miura emphasized that Nokia has developed AI for network equipment and wishes to share this technology with Viettel to jointly promote the process of smart telecommunications systems.

“We know that Viettel has a professional AI development team. Therefore, we would like to invite Viettel to join the research group on AI applications in the telecommunications sector. This group has the participation of Nvidia and Ericsson, contributing to the development of AI as an infrastructure platform for telecommunications devices,” said Mr. Miura.

Nokia Southeast Asia Regional Director also thanked Viettel for their suggestions to optimize Nokia's telecommunications equipment when integrating with the network. The cooperation between Viettel and Nokia not only improves equipment performance but also contributes to promoting the common development of both parties. Nokia hopes to continue to discuss in depth with Viettel on technical issues at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) to improve the quality and development capacity of telecommunications equipment.

“We see that compared to other technology fields, the development speed of telecommunications equipment is slowing down,” the head of the Group expressed. From there, Chairman Tao Duc Thang hopes that Viettel and Nokia can study the opportunity to cooperate in integrating AI to make telecommunications equipment smarter, capable of automatically checking performance, detecting problems and supporting engineers in operations.

Viettel aims to expand its 5G network in Vietnam by 2025, covering most provinces/cities and investing heavily in telecommunications infrastructure. The Group's Chairman expects Nokia to play an important role in providing infrastructure solutions and core technology for Viettel's 5G network. At the same time, the Group's head emphasized that the choice of partner will be based on product quality and competitiveness.

At the meeting, Mr. Ha Minh Tuan, Head of the Group's Technical Department, said that he would soon send detailed technical requirements for Nokia to better integrate the equipment into Viettel's network system. Viettel wants to explore the possibility of cooperating with Nokia in testing OpenRAN technology and expanding the features of the 5G network to develop new services.
