Mr. Ngo Van De, 46 years old, became one of the 100 outstanding farmers in 2023 due to achieving a revenue of 140 billion VND per year thanks to high-tech shrimp farming.
Mr. De in Long Khanh commune, Duyen Hai district, Tra Vinh province is raising high-tech shrimp on an area of over 10 hectares. In the past, he used to raise semi-intensive shrimp (partly depending on nature), but the results were not as expected, the shrimp mortality rate was high due to disease. In 2015, he gradually switched to investing in building a high-tech pond system.
With this method, the density of shrimp in the pond increases three times compared to traditional farming (from 50-100 shrimp/m2 to 200-300 shrimp/m2), the yield is also 2-3 times higher. In addition, technological shrimp farming controls the amount of food, the environment and the health of the shrimp.
With a revenue of 140 billion VND, after deducting expenses, Mr. De's model generates a profit of 42 billion VND each year. He also creates income for 40 regular workers.

Among the 100 outstanding farmers announced by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Union today in Hanoi, Mr. De has the highest revenue. In 2022, the outstanding farmer with the highest revenue will reach 70 billion VND.
Ms. Bui Thi Thom, Vice President of the Vietnam Farmers' Union, said that the outstanding farmers of 2023 were selected in 5 groups and fields including: Production and business; building new rural areas; protecting national security; initiatives and inventions; Cooperatives, small and medium-sized private businesses. Based on the summary records of the nominated farmers' achievements, the Selection Council analyzed and evaluated.
This year, 68 farmers were honored in the production and business group. 42 nominees had profits of over 3 billion VND, the highest of which belonged to a farmer in Ben Tre , reaching 50 billion VND/year.
The ceremony to honor and award titles to 100 outstanding Vietnamese farmers in 2023 will be held at the Hanoi Opera House on the evening of October 13.
