With a productivity of 15 tons/ha of water surface this year, clam farmers in Tan Thanh sea are excited because the income from 1 ha of clam farming reaches 300-400 million VND.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Tien Giang, clam farming in the area has developed steadily, with a farming area of about 2,200 hectares, concentrated in coastal communes of Go Cong Dong and Tan Phu Dong districts. The clam harvest output of Tien Giang province in the first quarter of 2024 reached about 2,540 tons.

Clam farming along the coast of Go Cong in Tien Giang province has developed over the years, contributing to creating jobs and income for people in the coastal area of Go Cong, while also creating a source of goods for consumption and export processing.

To increase the value of commercial clams, in 2011, Tien Giang province implemented the scientific and technological project "Building a clam exploitation management area in Go Cong, according to the standards of the Marine Stewardship Council MSC".

By the end of August 2023, the clam farming area of Go Cong Dong district was assessed by the global international certification organization (Control Union) and certified to meet the standards of the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) in early November 2023.

Currently, this clam farming area has an area of 350 hectares, managed and exploited by the Go Cong Dong District Sandbar Management Board.

Go Cong Dong district is the 4th clam farming area in Vietnam and also the 4th clam farming area in the world to achieve ASC certification.

After achieving this certification, it will help the clam farming industry of Tien Giang province in general and Go Cong Dong district in particular to develop stably, bringing high economic value, contributing to the socio-economic development of Go Cong Dong district in particular and Tien Giang province in general.
