According to India TV, the serious accident occurred near the Itiathok police station in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh, India, on August 3. At that time, the car carrying 15 passengers, including devotees on their way to Prithvinath temple, lost control and plunged into the canal.
Eleven people were confirmed dead in the accident and the rest are in critical condition.

"The victims were on their way from Sihagaon village to offer holy water at Prithvinath Temple in Khargupur when the accident occurred near Belwa Bahuta. The vehicle was carrying a total of 15 people, including the driver. Rescuers, with the help of local people, recovered 11 bodies from the submerged vehicle. The remaining four were rescued and rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition," Itiathok police station superintendent Krishn Gopal Rai said.
The bodies of the 11 victims have been sent for autopsies. Authorities are investigating the incident.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and said that the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF) would provide Rs 200,000 each to the families of those who died and Rs 50,000 each to the injured.
