French police on October 14 issued a bomb alert at the Palace of Versailles and evacuated residents. Earlier, the Louvre Museum in Paris was also closed "for security reasons" after receiving a similar threatening message. Police searched the museum but found no bomb as threatened in the message, so the museum will reopen on October 15.

French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin confirmed: "What happened at the Palace of Versailles, at the Louvre Museum or with the Gare de Lyon train station, we sent bomb disposal experts after the evacuation, because safety is the most important factor. However, after checking, there was no real threat and no bomb."

France has raised its security alert to its highest level following a tragic school attack in the city of Arras that left one teacher dead and two others seriously injured. French President Macron has ordered the mobilization of 7,000 troops to increase security patrols in major city centres and tourist sites across the country.

Speaking during a visit to Gambetta-Carnot school after the stabbing, the French President stated: "We are determined not to give in to terrorism, not to let anything divide us. I am here to express my support, to affirm that we are united and stand together in the fight against terrorism."
