On July 26, Mr. Mai Van Duong, director of the Elephant Species and Habitat Conservation Area under the Da Nang City Special-Use Forest Management Board, said that this unit had just discovered a baby elephant through a camera trap system installed in the forest area of the conservation area.

In early 2025, the Elephant Species and Habitat Conservation Area received reports from local residents of signs of elephant birth in the Na Lau area.

Immediately, the management board made a plan and placed 30 camera traps in 15 locations in areas where elephants often move.

The first photo collection did not detect any new elephant images, so the unit did not give up and continued to re-set camera traps in other potential areas.

From July 20 to July 23, the staff of this reserve collected camera traps. When checking the images, everyone was shocked to discover the image of a baby elephant.

The image of a baby elephant frolicking with its mother is the "sweet fruit" of the hard work of the forest rangers at the Elephant Species and Habitat Conservation Area in protecting the green forest.

The image shows the baby elephant moving flexibly and always being closely followed and protected by its mother.

The appearance of baby elephants marks a welcome sign of the natural reproduction of wild elephants living in the reserve.

This discovery is not only meaningful for conservation work, but also a great spiritual motivation for the forces that are protecting forests and wildlife day and night.

This is also a positive signal showing that elephant conservation work here is on the right track, contributing to the conservation of the endangered Asian elephant species.

According to the Elephant Species and Habitat Conservation Area, there are currently at least nine elephants recorded in the forest area.

In 2020, with the support of the Green Truong Son project, the Quang Nam Elephant Species and Habitat Conservation Area (formerly Da Nang) also recorded the appearance of a baby elephant about 1 year old.

Currently, the wild elephant population here has a complete herd structure including male, female and calf elephants.
