VnExpressVnExpress31/07/2023

Long An A 44-year-old woman had a dull pain in the top of her head and dizziness for a month, which got worse and worse. The doctor discovered nasopharyngeal cancer.

On July 31, a representative of Xuyen A Long An General Hospital said that the MRI scan results showed an abnormal mass, and the biopsy confirmed that the patient had stage three nasopharyngeal cancer. This was the cause of the patient's persistent headache.

The doctor treated symptoms of headache and dizziness and advised on a cancer treatment regimen combining chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

Nasopharyngeal cancer is the most common type of head and neck cancer and the fifth most common type of cancer. The disease has vague symptoms, so patients often go to the doctor and are diagnosed at a late stage. In the early stages, most patients only feel tinnitus, headache, stuffy nose, and nosebleeds.

If detected early, nasopharyngeal cancer responds very well to radiation therapy. The exact cause of the disease is not known. Many risk factors have been recorded such as EBV infection, HPV, smoking, drinking alcohol, eating fermented foods...

Doctors recommend immediate medical examination if there are signs of persistent dull headache, stuffy nose, tinnitus, nosebleeds or unusual neck lymph nodes. Periodically every 6 months, ENT endoscopy is performed to detect early nasopharyngeal cancer in particular and head and neck cancer in general.
