"Kungfu Panda 4" earned 70 billion VND, setting a record for the highest opening for an animated film in domestic theaters ever, followed by "Minions" and "Conan".

Premiered on March 8, Kungfu Panda 4 is the first project to top the domestic box office after a month of Tran Thanh's Mai continuously topping the charts. On March 14, this animated blockbuster reached over 70 billion VND, and is expected to quickly reach the 100 billion VND mark, according to Box Office Vietnam - an independent box office monitoring unit.

Kungfu Panda 4 is not the only animated film that has attracted attention in the country recently. During the Tet holiday, released along with a series of Vietnamese and Hollywood films, Spy x Family Code: White - a work based on the popular Japanese anime series of the same name - earned more than 27 billion VND. Despite having few screenings and a less favorable time slot than many competitors, the film still ranked third in the Tet box office race, just behind Mai and Meet again sister Bau (Nhat Trung).

The rise of many recent animated films shows the appeal of long-standing brands . The success of Kungfu Panda 4 was predicted since the project was first announced, because the previous films about panda Po were all global box office hits. When released in 2008, the film earned more than 631 million USD and received a series of film nominations and awards. The two sequels were both resounding successes, bringing the total revenue of the three films to 1.8 billion USD, becoming one of the most successful animated series of all time.

Similarly, the 26th Conan film retains its appeal thanks to its long-time loyal fan base. Despite its uninspiring content and predictable plot, the film still grossed $90 million after a month of release in Japan. Regularly released every year, the Doraemon cartoon continues to appeal to children, with last year’s film grossing more than $130 million worldwide.

Mr. Nguyen Hoang Hai - content director of CGV cinema complex - commented that recently domestic animated films are not restricted by age, suitable for Vietnamese culture, and are chosen by many families to enjoy.

In the near future, Vietnamese cinemas will witness a series of animated films released during the summer - the bustling period of the box office. Luca's Summer, a Pixar work in the young adult film genre, will open in April. After Doraemon: Nobita and the Symphony of the Earth - the 43rd film about robotic cats, many works of the same genre are predicted to "heat up" the box office, such as Garfield: Super naughty fat cat , Inside Out 2 (Emotional pieces), Despicable Me 4 (Despicable Me 4).
