Women in the capital share experiences in preserving and developing traditional crafts

The workshop aims to evaluate and objectively look at the role of women in preserving and developing traditional craft products; raise awareness of the Women's Union and women's organizations on preserving and developing traditional crafts. In particular, it focuses on solutions to develop collective economic development models in craft villages, contributing to the effective implementation of the Project "Supporting cooperatives managed by women, creating jobs for female workers until 2030" approved by the Prime Minister.

According to Permanent Vice President of Hanoi Women's Union Pham Thi Thanh Huong, in recent years, Hanoi Women's Union has proactively organized and implemented propaganda activities on the policies of the State and the City on developing craft villages; supported women in preserving and developing traditional craft products, creating jobs for women and their families, contributing to the implementation of sustainable economic development goals...

Along with that, the City Association has coordinated with the Hanoi Handicraft and Craft Village Association to honor 10 female artisans and skilled workers; and is submitting to the City People's Committee to award Certificates of Merit to 8 female artisans proposed to be honored in 2024.

Currently, the city has about 1,350 craft villages and villages with crafts (accounting for 56% of the total number of craft villages) and converges 47/52 occupations in the total number of traditional occupations in the country. Of the nearly 350 artisans in craft villages, there are 1/13 female folk artisans, 5/42 female excellent artisans, 50/290 female artisans in Hanoi. However, the participation in preserving and developing traditional occupations of the Association and women's organizations still faces many difficulties and challenges.

At the workshop, Deputy Secretary of Tay Ho District Party Committee Nguyen Le Hoang expressed his desire to listen to general contributions to the work of preserving and promoting the value of traditional craft village products; at the same time, learn more good models and creative ways of doing things from other units to organize and implement activities to preserve and develop traditional craft village products in Tay Ho district.

At the workshop, delegates shared experiences and provided advice on policy approaches to support vocational development; preserving and developing traditional occupations; and at the same time, advised the Women's Union at all levels on solutions to promote women's participation in the field of preserving and developing traditional craft products, and promoting activities to support collective economic development in the coming time.
