South Korea's Yonhap news agency praised Phu Quoc as "Vietnam's Maldives", a resort paradise attracting more and more Korean tourists.
In an article in mid-September, Yonhap stated that in terms of popularity worldwide , international visitors know more about Da Nang and Ha Long Bay than Phu Quoc. However, the "pearl island" is just as beautiful as the two above destinations with clean emerald green beaches and 4-5 star resorts with stunning views of the ocean.
The Korean news agency said it would be a wise choice if Korean tourists come to Phu Quoc now, before the destination becomes too famous and crowded.
According to a survey by Yonhap, the number of Korean tourists to Phu Quoc is gradually increasing thanks to word of mouth and "Korean signs can often be seen at restaurants and massage parlors in the center of Duong Dong town".
Suggesting a trip to Phu Quoc, travel expert Baek Seung-ryeol recommends three experiences: staying at resorts in the south of the island, strolling around the "Mediterranean town" Sunset Town, and visiting a temple with a statue of Guanyin Buddha overlooking the sea.
The southern part of the island is home to many 5-star resorts, where visitors can enjoy a view of the sea from their swimming pools or bedrooms. The resorts here are rated by Korean newspapers as "a paradise for relaxation and family travel" due to their many amenities such as spas, fitness centers, event rooms, kids clubs and many outdoor group activities such as yoga, diving, and cycling. The resorts recommended by Korean experts are Premier Residences Phu Quoc Emerald Bay, Premier Village Phu Quoc Resort, La Verand or JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay Resort & Spa.
In addition to experiencing the beautiful resorts, Yonhap suggests that visitors visit the "Sunset Town" area, 10 minutes west of JW Marriott Phu Quoc. "Here, world-famous landmarks such as the ruins of Pompeii, the Roman arena... are recreated," Baek Seung-ryeol was quoted by Yonhap.
He also suggested that visitors experience the world's longest three-wire cable car with a station in the middle of town to Hon Thom Island. At the cable car station, visitors can see a giant clock tower similar to the famous San Marco bell tower in Venice, Italy. "A truly unique experience, seeing the Mediterranean landscape in a tropical country," Yonhap commented.
In addition to resort experiences, Phu Quoc is also a suitable destination for cultural exploration and historical sites. Ho Quoc is the largest pagoda on the island, loved by tourists because it is located on a hill with a direct view of the sea and is a beautiful sunrise destination that visitors should go to early in the day.
This is not the first time the Korean media has paid attention to Phu Quoc. Last June, many newspapers and news sites in the land of kimchi reported that the Vietnamese island city was an attractive new destination.
