Quang Tri has just sent a document proposing to supplement power source development in Power Plan VIII to the Ministry of Industry and Trade .

Quang Tri is oriented to become the energy center of the Central region by 2030, according to the policy supported by the Government and the Resolution of the 17th Provincial Party Congress.

Up to now, the total commercial power generation capacity of energy projects in the province is 1,119.5 MW. It is expected that in 2024, another wind power project with a capacity of 30 MW will be commercially generated.

Many other wind power and hydropower projects are being implemented with a total capacity of 487MW, LNG power with a capacity of 1,500MW, natural gas power with a capacity of 340MW, and a proposal to convert coal-fired thermal power to LNG with a capacity of 1,500MW.

Vietnam Electricity Group is also building many transformer station and 500kV transmission line projects in Quang Tri.

The above transmission grid projects, when put into operation, will increase the capacity to release capacity and serve as the basis and criteria for Quang Tri province to develop additional capacity of potential wind power projects in the western region and offshore.

According to Power Plan VIII, Quang Tri province is allocated a total capacity of 1,800 MW by 2030. Excluding projects that are already in operation, the province is committed to selecting investors for the remaining 632.6 MW allocated.

However, there are currently 62 onshore wind power projects with a total capacity of about 4,748 MW that have been researched, surveyed, and have project proposal documents prepared and are included in the list of potential projects of Power Plan VIII.

Therefore, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province proposed that the Ministry of Industry and Trade consider adding an additional 1,500 - 2,000 MW of onshore wind power capacity to the province.

Regarding offshore wind power in the Con Co island area, there are currently 3 offshore wind power projects with a total capacity of 2,600 MW in the list of potential projects of the Power Plan VIII; 4 projects with a total capacity of 3,000 MW have been approved by the Provincial People's Committee for survey and research.

Therefore, Quang Tri proposed that the Ministry of Industry and Trade consider adding offshore wind power to Quang Tri with a capacity of 2,600 - 4,000 MW.

The total capacity that Quang Tri proposes to add to the 8th Power Plan this time is 4,100 - 6,000 MW of onshore and offshore wind power.
