For over 100 years, the New Year's Eve celebration in the US has included the moment when a giant light ball is released in Times Square, signaling the beginning of a new year, along with the colorful confetti drop with people's New Year's wishes written on it.

This year, the crystal ball in Times Square has a "new look", with hundreds of the ball's 3,000 crystals replaced with a new design, a floral bow motif.

As for the wishing confetti release, this year more than 1,360 kg of confetti will be released, with an estimated 1 million people coming to the Square to admire the scene and about 1 billion people worldwide watching the live broadcast.

“People from all over the world came to Times Square and wrote their New Year’s wishes and wishes on confetti in more than 40 languages,” said Jeffrey Straus, president of Countdown Entertainment, the organizer of the New Year’s Eve celebration.

If you are here on New Year's Eve, you can raise your hand to the sky and catch someone's wish or blessing. The wonderful thing is, we all want the same things: love, peace , good jobs, healthy and happy families. We are all one on New Year's Eve."

If you can't be in New York on this occasion, you can send your wishes to the organizers via the Internet so they can print them out and release them along with the wishes of thousands of other people on New Year's Eve.

“It’s a family tradition to attend New Year’s Eve celebrations. We always try to be at the Square,” said one resident at Times Square.

In addition, the ball in Times Square - known as the "Crossroads of the World" officially begins at around 6pm tomorrow (December 31) and the crystal ball of light will be slowly lowered for one minute at 23:59 on December 31.
