Launching the Cybersecurity Handbook for Women Leaders

On June 15, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) and the Vietnam Women Entrepreneurs Council (VWEC) officially launched the "Cybersecurity Handbook for Women Leaders".

The handbook provides female entrepreneurs, female business leaders and organizations with basic information on information security and network security issues on the Internet environment, how to prevent and recognize the risk of being attacked, as well as measures to take when being attacked by a network.

At the event, nearly 80 delegates from ministries, international organizations, associations, businesses, digital transformation experts and female entrepreneurs, female directors of social organizations, and social enterprises in Hanoi and some neighboring provinces attended and discussed and shared experiences to improve the capacity to use and exploit information and digital data safely in cyberspace.

In the current era of information technology explosion, networks and information technology are important factors promoting the development of small and medium enterprises, social organizations and social enterprises.

However, besides the opportunities, this environment also brings huge risks and challenges to individual users as well as businesses and organizations in general and businesses and organizations led by women in particular in ensuring information security.

There are more and more sophisticated and organized cyber attacks, with large scale targeting businesses and large corporations while the awareness of cyber security of individual users in Vietnam is still very limited. Many companies still only apply traditional network information security solutions, technology is not updated and only when attacked do they hire human resources to repair and restore.

According to many studies, women often face greater risks when participating in Internet use. The reason is that gender restrictions make it difficult for women to participate in training, exchange, networking or activities related to technology and digital transformation, especially for women in remote areas, women and girls with disabilities and elderly women.

Speaking at the event, Ms. Caroline Nyamayemombe, Acting Representative of UN Women in Viet Nam, said: “The scope of use and reach of this handbook is very wide. By equipping women leaders in Viet Nam with the necessary knowledge, expertise and resources, this handbook contributes positively to the overall efforts in empowering women to respond quickly and confidently in the cybersecurity space, enhancing resilience and vigilance in the country’s digital infrastructure, where women leaders play a very important role.”

Within the framework of the program, speakers shared about opportunities and challenges for female-owned businesses in the digital age, information security and cybersecurity issues for business operations in general and female-owned businesses in particular, and solutions to support female-owned businesses in improving their digital transformation capacity and ensuring information security and cybersecurity in the current context.

The program is organized by the Vietnam Women Entrepreneurs Council under the Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) in collaboration with UN Women and the Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam ( BIDV ).

This is an activity within the framework of the "Program to support women-owned businesses, associations, clubs, social organizations, and female entrepreneurs in using and exploiting information and data safely in cyberspace" under the regional program "Women, peace and cyber security: Promoting peace and security for women in the digital world" of UN Women.

The program aims to enhance the capacity to use and exploit digital information and data safely in cyberspace for women-owned businesses, Associations, Women Entrepreneurs' Clubs; social organizations, and support the promotion of digital transformation in businesses, social enterprises and social organizations owned/led by women.
