The book is the result of a serious research process, providing a comprehensive and in-depth view of Vietnam's economic development journey from after the August Revolution to the end of 2008, in relation to the regional and global economic context.
The third edition of the book Vietnam Economy - Ups and Downs and Breakthroughs has expanded, updated and deepened the value of a fundamental economic research work. First published in 2009, at the height of the global financial crisis, the book clearly depicted the transformation stages of the Vietnamese economy since the renovation. After more than 15 years, the third edition shows the authors' efforts in supplementing knowledge suitable for the new context: when the global and domestic economies are experiencing major fluctuations such as the Covid-19 pandemic, supply chain crisis, geopolitical instability, and the need for institutional reform is increasingly urgent.
The book's content retains the 3-part structure: Ups and downs - Breakthroughs - Problems and phenomena , but has been updated with data, expanded analysis and clarified the connections between economic phenomena with management policies and global trends. Issues such as real estate "bubbles", "herd" behavior in the financial market... are not only presented as lessons from the past but also viewed from a current perspective, suggesting reform thinking for the future. The special feature of this reprint is the way of posing the problem in an open way, without imposing conclusions, helping readers have space to debate and reflect more deeply on the national development model. The idea of a creative and regulatory State in parallel with market power is emphasized as an important orientation in the context of reforming the socialist-oriented market economy today. The system of tables, appendices and reference items has also been refined to be more scientific, effectively supporting readers in in-depth research and reference.
