According to Android Authority , the latest report from Counterpoint Research shows that Huawei has surpassed Samsung to become the leading foldable smartphone manufacturer in the first quarter of 2024. The Chinese company accounts for 35% of the global foldable smartphone market share, compared to Samsung's 23%. In the same period last year, Huawei only accounted for 14%, while Samsung was 58%.

Huawei's tireless efforts in the foldable smartphone market have paid off.

Huawei's strong market share has been driven by its shift to 5G on foldable smartphones, with the Mate X5 being one of the best-selling products in China for three consecutive quarters, while the Pocket 2 was also one of the company's most popular devices in Q1. Huawei has relied heavily on its home market since the US ban was imposed in 2019, so it wouldn't be surprising if China accounted for the majority of Huawei's foldable smartphone sales.

H ONOR and Motorola also saw a surge in growth compared to last year, with increases of 460% and 1,473% respectively, and a combined market share of 42%. In fact, these two brands took the third and fourth positions respectively.

Counterpoint Research also noted that this is the first time since 2021 that the budget foldable smartphone segment has accounted for the majority of global foldable smartphone sales (55%). Foldable devices from HONOR and Xiaomi, along with Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip6 expected to launch later this year, promise to further boost the segment's market share.
