On October 31, Mr. Nguyen Tu Cong Hoang, Vice Chairman of Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee, signed a document requesting the Ministry of Transport to consider and guide the pilot operation of seaplanes at sea to serve tourism.

Binh Dinh is a locality with the advantage of a 134 km long coastline, many beautiful beaches such as Quy Nhon, Hai Giang, Trung Luong, Vinh Hoi...; many islands near the shore such as Nhon Chau, Hon Kho, Yen Island...; a system of lagoons and bays such as Quy Nhon Bay, Thi Nai Lagoon, Tra O Lagoon... and dozens of large and small islands to develop marine tourism activities.

However, there is still no suitable means of transport to fully exploit the values of marine resources and explore the natural beauty of Binh Dinh sea.

Therefore, Binh Dinh proposed that the Ministry of Transport consider piloting seaplanes for tourism activities, combined with search and rescue at sea.

The M80 seaplane has a payload of 3.1 tons, a transport capacity of 1.2 tons, can carry up to 8 people (including 2 pilots), a maximum flight speed of 200km/h, and a sea speed of 54 nautical miles/h (100km/h).

According to the assessment of Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee, using seaplanes is more optimal than helicopters or ground aircraft in terms of take-off and landing areas, size characteristics as well as fuel capacity.

"Developing seaplane operations to serve tourism is a new breakthrough direction, creating a unique highlight for the province's tourism industry, " the report stated.

With outstanding advantages, Binh Dinh province proposed that the Ministry of Transport provide specific instructions on the types of seaplanes allowed to be used in Vietnam and the procedures for registering for a license to use the M80 seaplane to serve the transportation of tourists in the province.

Previously, the People's Committee of Binh Dinh province sent an official dispatch requesting the Ministry of Transport to review the report and propose to the Prime Minister for approval so that the People's Committee of this province can develop a pilot project for flying taxis operating in the area to serve tourism development.
