"Every immigrant I know is being deported, including children. I don't understand. I'm so sorry. I wish I could do something but I can't. I don't know what to do. I'll try everything, I promise," said star Selena Gomez - a third-generation Mexican-American - via her Instagram.

Selena Gomez (32 years old) wrote "I'm sorry" next to a Mexican flag.

The Calm Down singer's message was later deleted as she admitted that she did not receive a good response.

"It's obviously not okay to show empathy for people," she wrote in a follow-up post, which was also later deleted.

However, Selena Gomez received support from grateful fans through X. One person wrote: "Selena shows a humanity that many lack."

"The way she does everything she can to help people and gets hate in return....", another wrote.

"This is really heartbreaking," another person added.

Donald Trump (78 years old) has prioritized efforts to deport illegal immigrants from the US since he was sworn in as the 47th President on January 20.

On January 24, the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested 593 illegal immigrants in the US.

The raids expanded to Los Angeles the next day. Multiple sources told the Post that the migrants were taken to local ICE detention centers, awaiting deportation.

According to the BBC , about 286 people were arrested on January 25 and another 950 on January 26, when raids took place in major cities such as Miami, Chicago and Newark.

Meanwhile, Selena Gomez has been vocal about immigration for years, including an opinion piece in Time magazine in October 2019.

"Undocumented immigration is an issue I think about every day, and I never forget how lucky I am to have been born in this country through family and circumstances," the pop star wrote, explaining that she feels "fear" for her country as she witnesses "debates about immigration rage."

At the time, Selena Gomez shared that US immigration laws are "flawed" and "our country was built by people coming here from other countries."
