Following the nomination of Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Mr. Seah Kian Peng was elected by the Singaporean Parliament to replace the position of former Speaker of Parliament Tan Chuan-Jin, who had to resign on July 17 due to personal scandals.

In addition, Mr. Tan Chuan-Jin was also criticized for making "unparliamentary" remarks aimed at an opposition Workers' Party MP in Parliament last April.

The new Speaker of Singapore also called on MPs to be careful in all their personal actions, as well as to remember and undertake the responsibilities assigned to them with dignity and a constant sense of responsibility.

Singaporean Speaker of Parliament Seah Kian Peng is 61 years old and has been in politics since 2006. He served as Deputy Speaker of Parliament from 2011 to 2016.
