Second seed Jannik Sinner defeated his senior Grigor Dimitrov 6-3, 6-1 to win his first Masters 1000 title in Miami on the afternoon of March 31.

After two final defeats in 2021 and 2023, Sinner became the new Miami Open champion with just one set lost. The Italian's record this year is 21-1. He lost only to Carlos Alcaraz at Indian Wells, winning three titles to take his career total to 13.

The second Masters 1000 title came quite easily for Sinner. He completely overwhelmed Dimitrov in the long rallies. The Bulgarian chose a fast style of play, attacking the net whenever he had the chance, but was often counter-attacked by Sinner from the back of the court. Dimitrov also could not control his junior's serve, leading to a quick defeat after 74 minutes.

"I'm proud of my performance today, as well as the whole tournament," Sinner said after winning his 13th ATP title. "I had a great two weeks in the US, overcoming many difficulties and feeling better and better."

Sinner will take over Alcaraz's second ATP ranking when the rankings are updated today. He is the first Italian to reach that position and the first Italian to win more than one Masters 1000. Sinner won his first Masters 1000 title last season in Toronto.

The 22-year-old will return to Europe to prepare for the Monte Carlo Masters starting on April 7. Sinner could challenge Novak Djokovic for world number one in the clay season as he is only defending 580 points.

Dimitrov also had a successful tournament, returning him to the world top 10 for the first time since 2017. The 32-year-old has lost two Masters 1000 finals in the past four months, before losing to Djokovic at the Paris Masters. He ended his six-year title drought earlier this season, at the Brisbane International.
