The rate of Vietnamese users infected with web threats during this period was recorded at 34%. This puts Vietnam in 67th place worldwide in terms of the level of danger associated with web surfing.

“With the continuous efforts of the Vietnamese government , the number of cyber threats in Vietnam has been continuously decreasing over the past few years. It can be seen that Vietnam’s internationally coordinated campaign is a good example of how forces should cooperate in the fight against cybercrime,” commented Yeo Siang Tiong, General Manager for Southeast Asia at Kaspersky.

When it comes to web threats, browser-based attacks are the primary method of spreading malware. Two common tactics used by cybercriminals are exploiting vulnerabilities in browsers and plugins, as well as other social engineering methods.

While the former method requires the user to visit a malicious website without any conscious intervention from the user, the latter method requires user participation – the user has to download a malicious file to his computer. This happens when the cybercriminal tricks the victim into believing that they are downloading a legitimate program.
