130 times of blood and platelet donation – the enduring journey of a volunteer heart
The first time Ms. Nhung donated blood was in 2011, when she was a first-year student at Hanoi National University of Education. At first, she was a bit worried, but after being consulted, she understood that donating blood does not affect her health but is a noble act, helping to save people. Since then, she has regularly donated blood.
In particular, since 2015, she has started donating platelets - a form that requires higher physical and procedural requirements. Every time she donates platelets, she travels by motorbike from Hung Yen to Hanoi, undergoes many checks, and waits for a long time. Despite the hardship, she has never been discouraged . "Knowing that there are people who need blood and platelets to overcome critical conditions, I cannot hesitate" - Ms. Nhung shared.
Up to now, Ms. Nhung has donated blood and platelets 130 times, becoming one of the most blood donors in the province, a familiar face in humanitarian blood donation campaigns.
Ms. Nhung's volunteer spirit has spread to her family, especially her husband, Mr. Vu Minh Nam. From being worried about his wife's health every time she donated blood, Mr. Nam gradually admired her and decided to accompany her in sowing the seeds of goodness. To date, he has donated blood more than 50 times. For them, this action is not only a charitable act but also a way to educate their children about love and responsibility to the community.
Inspire the community
Not only directly donating blood, Ms. Nhung is also the person behind many volunteer activities that have a profound impact on the community. Since July 2025, she has officially taken on the role of President of the "Live to Love" Blood Donation Club, a place that gathers kind hearts with the goal of spreading the voluntary blood donation movement in the province. Currently, the Club has attracted more than 800 members, mainly youth union members, cadres, teachers and people who actively participate in regular blood donation as well as being ready to donate blood suddenly in emergency situations.
As the club president, she actively promotes and mobilizes club members to participate in humanitarian blood donation campaigns in the province; shares knowledge about the role of blood in treatment and emergency; and builds a wide network of volunteers throughout the province. Not only that, she is also an active member of the “Living Blood Bank”, always ready to donate blood when there is an urgent call.
In particular, she also performed many noble acts such as: registering to donate corneas, organs and bodies after death, donating hair to cancer patients... Each action, though silent, comes from a heart of charity, a desire to share with those in difficult circumstances.
With her tireless contributions over the past 14 years, Ms. Nhung has been honored and rewarded many times by the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion and the Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation Movement of Hung Yen province for her important contribution to the development of the voluntary blood donation movement in the locality.
The beautiful life example of teacher Hoang Thi Tuyet Nhung not only contributes to saving the lives of patients through each drop of blood, but also strongly spreads the spirit of humanity and responsibility for the community. It is from these persistent and silent actions that she has lit the fire of love, inspiring more and more people to be willing to share and join hands for the community.
