Using artificial intelligence to detect and resolve traffic violations

According to the leader of the Traffic Police Department (C08), if previously traffic law enforcement was maintained by the traffic police force, then in the future traffic law enforcement will be maintained by awareness, because there is a 24/7 monitoring system.

On the evening of July 16, at the Command Information Center of C08, Major General Do Thanh Binh, Director of C08 ( Ministry of Public Security ) shared with the press about the application of technology in ensuring traffic order and safety.

Major General Do Thanh Binh said that the Command Information Center will become a Department of Data Exploitation Management and Digital Transformation to comply with the directions of the Party and State, especially Resolution No. 57 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation and national digital transformation.

The Department of Data Mining and Digital Transformation Management will have the function of "traffic police management". According to Major General Do Thanh Binh, in the future, people who change their driving license only need to notify the traffic police that they have a health certificate, and quickly and in the shortest time will be issued a digital license (commonly known as an electronic driving license on the VNeID application). The above department will be a level 1 center to resolve people's problems when participating in traffic. There will be 34 units in 34 new provinces and cities as a miniature model to receive people's feedback.

According to the leader of C08, if previously the enforcement was maintained by human traffic police, then in the future the enforcement of traffic laws will be maintained by consciousness, because there is a 24/7 monitoring system.

“From this center, through traffic software, we will provide the best traffic conditions for people to choose the right route; there will be a traffic police application and people can use it for free. At the center, artificial intelligence will be used to detect and solve problems related to violations,” said Major General Do Thanh Binh.

It is expected that in the near future, traffic police officers on duty on the road will no longer have to say "Sir or Madam, let me check your vehicle registration", instead, they will only need to ask "What is your ID number", all data related to traffic participants will be fully displayed.

“Thus, fake documents, fake registrations, fake insurance, fake driving licenses will not exist, because traffic police do not check physical documents. This also exempts many types of accompanying fees,” Major General Do Thanh Binh shared.

Director of Department C08 also said that currently, in addition to connection data, the most important data for traffic is the camera system on the roads. The application of technology in ensuring traffic safety and order will have stages. In phase 1, the devices will be stabilized with software; in phase 2, it will be accelerated, installing many cameras with modern technology and at that time there will only be "electronic traffic police".

“We plan to announce which behaviors require stopping vehicles, but basically we will control them using an automatic system. Later, we will develop a software system to adjust the light cycle according to vehicle density and other related software…”, Major General Do Thanh Binh affirmed and said that C08 will advise on amending related documents to ensure synchronous implementation.

For more information, Major General Do Thanh Binh said that in the near future, the traffic police force will strictly handle acts related to commercial transport vehicles. For example, vehicles that exceed the prescribed time will be automatically analyzed by the system.

“We must declare war on commercial transport vehicles, especially freight vehicles, which are disregarding the lives of road users. Because these are conditional business vehicles, they need to be strictly managed, including conditions on equipment,” said the leader of C08.
