Piano talent Nguyen Duc Kien: Hard work and passion make success

With skillful technique, subtle emotions and confidence on stage, talented pianist Nguyen Duc Kien conquered the judges and surpassed other contestants in the same group to bring glory to Vietnam.

Young talent Nguyen Duc Kien has just won First Prize at the 6th Fujairah International Piano Competition in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

This is a very meaningful victory because Nguyen Duc Kien passed the qualifying round in Vietnam, two live rounds in Fujairah and 24 other contestants from more than 10 different countries, including very strong contestants from Russia, China, France, America, Egypt, Azerbaijan, Armenia...

Won First Prize at the prestigious Fujairah International Piano Competition

The Fujairah International Piano Competition is organized by the Fujairah Fine Arts Academy and is sponsored by His Highness the Crown Prince of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohamed Bin Hamad Al-Sharqi.

This is a prestigious music event, attracting young piano talents from all over the world. The competition has been held since 2019, with the aim of creating an international playground for young pianists to showcase their talents and exchange cultures.

To date, the competition has been held six times, the sixth time just taking place at the end of January 2025. Through each organization, the competition increasingly affirms its position in the international music community, while contributing to promoting the development of piano art in the region and in the world .

In the 6th competition, the Organizing Committee held qualifying rounds in 10 countries around the world, including classical piano training powerhouses such as Russia, France, Italy, Germany, England, Japan... In addition, the competition also had independent contestants from many different countries.

The Vietnamese delegation consists of 5 contestants participating in 4 groups (group A from 8 to 10 years old, group B from 11 to 13 years old, group C from 14 to 17 years old, group D from 18 years old and up).

The Vietnamese delegation won big as they were one of the few countries to win 3 prizes, including the consolation prize in group A belonging to TC2/9 student Vo Giap Phong, Vietnam National Academy of Music, the 3rd prize in group B belonging to Nguyen Minh Viet, Hanoi College of Art and especially the first prize in group C belonging to Nguyen Duc Kien - a talented student of TC 8/9, Vietnam National Academy of Music.

This is a very meaningful victory because Nguyen Duc Kien has excellently surpassed 24 other contestants from more than 10 different countries, including very strong contestants from Russia, China, France, America, Egypt, Azerbaijan, Armenia...

Before achieving great success at the Fujairah competition, Nguyen Duc Kien had won many awards at large and small domestic and international competitions.

Most recently, Duc Kien was honored at the Rachmanioff International Youth Piano Competition held in Russia in 2023. This is a very difficult competition in terms of expertise, with fierce competition from hundreds of contestants from world music powers such as Japan, the US, France, China, Korea... At the competition, Nguyen Duc Kien and 15 contestants entered the finals, received a Diploma and played with the Moscow Symphony Orchestra.

Sweet fruit from talent and constant efforts

Today's success of musical talent Nguyen Duc Kien is the sweet fruit of many years of continuous effort. Nguyen Duc Kien not only possesses rare musical talent but is also a testament to perseverance, hard work and a burning passion for classical music.

Born into a family with no artistic tradition, Duc Kien had to make constant efforts, undergo serious training, and diligently practice thousands of hours of playing the instrument to perfect his musical technique and emotions.

Another lucky thing for Kien is that he received the dedicated direct guidance of Associate Professor - Doctor Nguyen Huy Phuong - who has more than 20 years of dedicated dedication to piano teaching at the Piano Department, Vietnam National Academy of Music.

Nguyen Duc Kien on the day he received the Diploma of the Rachmanioff International Youth Piano Competition in Veliky Novgorod, Russia in 2023; next to him is Associate Professor - Doctor Nguyen Huy Phuong.

Above all, the success of young talents like Nguyen Duc Kien is proof that the quality of music training in Vietnam is increasingly changing positively, and if invested early and in the right direction, Vietnamese musical talents can completely compete with countries with strong music in the international music arena," Associate Professor - Doctor Nguyen Huy Phuong said./.
