Although she is nearly 70 years old, with the spirit of daring to think, daring to do, and diligence, industriousness, and creativity in production, Ms. Nguyen Thi Lap - a member of the Women's Union in Ca No hamlet, Vinh Loi commune, Tan Hung district, has boldly converted the crop structure on ineffective rice land to purple lemon cultivation, the model initially brought quite high economic efficiency.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Lap, born in 1956, is from Thap Muoi district, Dong Thap province. In 2008, Ms. Lap bought land for farming in Ca No hamlet, Vinh Loi commune. In 2015, her family moved to this land to settle down until now.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Lap said that her family has more than 06 hectares of agricultural land for rice cultivation, but due to unstable prices, combined with pests and diseases, rice production does not bring high economic efficiency. Realizing that the purple lime growing model in her hometown of Thap Muoi district, Dong Thap province is bringing quite high economic efficiency, in 2022, Ms. Lap discussed with her family and agreed to borrow additional capital from the District Social Policy Bank Transaction Office with an amount of 70 million VND to proceed with the conversion of 4 hectares of rice land to grow more than 01 thousand purple lime trees interspersed with 01 thousand 0200 coconut trees.

From the first months of 2024 until now, Ms. Lap has harvested 3 batches of lemons (each batch is higher than the previous one) with a yield of more than 14 tons, the selling price to traders is from 19,500 VND to 21,500 VND/kg, earning nearly 300 million VND. As for the coconut tree, it is expected to start bearing fruit after 1 year.

From the initial effectiveness of growing purple lemons, it is expected that in the near future, Ms. Lap will continue to expand the area of 6,000 square meters to plant 400 more purple lemon trees. Thereby, it has opened a new direction in converting crops suitable for the locality, contributing to improving the economy and increasing income for people in the coming time.
