Strengthening control and preventing illegal transportation and trading of pigs into Dak Lak province

The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee has just issued an Official Dispatch on preventing, detecting and strictly handling cases of illegal trading and transportation of pigs across the border into the province.

Recently, the illegal trade and transportation of pigs into Vietnam, especially from Cambodia, has been complicated, affecting domestic production and increasing the risk of infection and spread of dangerous diseases in domestic pigs; smuggled pigs of unknown origin, possibly fed with banned products for livestock farming, not ensuring veterinary hygiene and food safety, have the potential to seriously affect the domestic livestock industry and people's health.

Therefore, to strengthen prevention, detection and strict handling of cases of illegal trading and transportation of pigs across the border into the province, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested the Chairmen of the People's Committees of districts, towns and cities to strengthen inspection, supervision and control, especially at trails and openings in border areas, rivers... to prevent, detect and strictly handle cases of illegal trading and transportation of pigs across the border into the province.

In case of detecting illegal imported pigs, it is necessary to re-export or destroy them immediately and strictly handle organizations and individuals who violate the law. In addition, organize propaganda for people in border areas about the harmful effects of trading and transporting pigs without quarantine and of unknown origin. Request people not to participate in or assist in the transportation and trading of animals and animal products, especially illegally imported pigs into Vietnam through Dak Lak province.

In addition, the District People's Committee directs and assigns local forces to organize statistics and control the herd of pigs entering the locality to promptly detect fluctuations and sudden increases in the number due to collusion and legalization of the origin of pigs being transported and smuggled; assigns specialized agencies to organize strict inspection and supervision at livestock collection and slaughter facilities, especially locations adjacent to Buon Don and Ea Sup districts; strengthens inspection and traceability of transportation and consumption in the district; establishes working groups to inspect and urge the control and prevention of illegal transportation and trading of pigs into Dak Lak province.

Units: Provincial Police, Provincial Border Guard Command coordinate with local authorities and functional forces of the Department of Industry and Trade, Department of Finance, Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dak Lak Market Management Department to fight and prevent pig smuggling on the border, border gates, trails, and openings; establish a special project to fight against subjects illegally trading and transporting pigs across the border, legalizing the origin of animals, animal products, and animal quarantine papers; border guards organize propaganda to raise awareness of people in border areas in disease prevention and control, trade fraud, and illegal transportation of pigs across the border; support the destruction when a large number of pigs must be destroyed to prevent the spread of disease.

The Provincial Steering Committee 389 has implemented measures to prevent, promptly detect and strictly handle cases of smuggling, transporting and illegally trading animals and animal products, especially pigs, into the province through the two districts of Buon Don and Ea Sup, which have a border with the Kingdom of Cambodia; closely coordinate and proactively share information and data with veterinary agencies at all levels and organize the implementation of measures to prevent and control animal diseases in accordance with current laws...
