The Girls Takeover event - Empowering girls was recently held with the participation of 33 child delegates from 5 provinces: Ha Giang , Lai Chau, Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Kon Tum.

At the event, 5 girls were selected to lead a meeting to discuss and share urgent issues in ethnic minority areas and discuss solutions.

Sharing her story, Ms. Migena Shulla, Country Director of Plan International in Vietnam, said that more than 30 years ago, when she entered university, she never thought that she would have the opportunity to go abroad. However, now, she has lived and worked in four countries with her family. Throughout her career, she has met many wonderful people who believed in and supported her on her development path. Therefore, meeting you today brings her very special emotions, reminding her of her time in school like you do now.

At the event, the girls led a meeting to discuss pressing issues in the minority region.

"I hope that my story can inspire and help you overcome difficulties. No matter what the circumstances, opportunities always exist; the important thing is that you boldly seek them out and seize them. Always be open, willing to learn and never give up. On the journey of self-development, not only the destination but also every step along the way is very precious. I really hope that one day, I will see you standing here, at a similar event, to share your own inspirational stories and bring motivation to other children" - Ms. Migena Shulla expressed.

Girls Takeover is Plan International’s global initiative to promote gender equality and empower girls and young people to take on leadership roles. Since its launch in 2016, the campaign has created thousands of events around the world , where girls not only demonstrate their leadership potential but also contribute their voices to shaping the future. In Vietnam, the Girls Take Over series of activities has been taking place for many years and has always attracted strong attention from the community and the media.

More than just a temporary empowerment of girls to take on important roles, the Girls Take Over initiative is also a symbolic way to promote their stronger participation in social issues, especially children's rights and gender equality. By giving girls the opportunity to experience leadership positions in organizations and businesses, the program hopes to change society's perception of the role of women in all fields.
