On the evening of June 3, a boat carrying 9 fishermen fishing about 3 nautical miles (nearly 6 km) from Phu Quy Island was capsized by big waves and strong winds.

The captain and seven people jumped into the sea and swam to shore after about three hours. Fisherman Tran Van Truong (35 years old) was determined to have not escaped in time when the boat capsized.

This morning, the Binh Thuan Border Guard ship stationed on the island continued to search for the victim. The Phan Thiet Coastal Information Station notified nearby vessels to assist in the rescue. The distressed vehicle was towed back to the island by a fishing boat.
