The Greek Coast Guard said a Comoros-flagged cargo ship sank off the Greek island of Lesbos, leaving one person dead and 12 missing.

Previously, this salt-carrying ship was on its way from the port of El Dekheila in Egypt to the city of Istanbul in Türkiye when it reported a mechanical problem and sent out a distress signal early on the morning of November 26.
There were 14 people on board at the time of the incident. Authorities launched a major rescue operation. A navy helicopter rescued one of the 14 crew members and took him to a hospital on the island.
“A body has been found in the area,” a coast guard official confirmed.
The ship sank 4.5 nautical miles (8.3 km) southwest of the island of Lesbos. The crew included two Syrians, four Indians and eight Egyptians.
According to AFP, despite wind speeds reaching 9-10 on the Beaufort scale and equivalent to strong gusts in a hurricane, ships were still anchored in some areas of Greece on November 25.
