Thailand determined to reduce air pollution

Thai authorities have pledged to take action to tackle rising air pollution before seasonal haze returns to peak levels soon, The Nation reported.

Previously, the capital Bangkok was ranked among the 10 most polluted cities in the world on October 20, when harmful PM2.5 dust levels spiked to 48 micrograms/ m3 .

The Pollution Control Department (PCD) under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Thailand said that PM2.5 levels have increased beyond the safe level of 37.5 micrograms per cubic meter in most areas of Bangkok, affecting human health. The PCD also warned that calm weather will lead to high PM2.5 concentrations in Bangkok until October 28.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has advised people in areas with high pollution levels to reduce outdoor activities and wear protective masks when necessary. Anyone experiencing symptoms such as coughing, difficulty breathing, eye irritation, chest tightness, headache, irregular heartbeat, nausea or fatigue should consult a doctor.
