The General Department of Customs has just sent an urgent document to Lao Cai Customs Department and local Customs Departments to instruct businesses to clearly declare the export purpose of cinnamon essential oil when exporting to remove obstacles in customs clearance of this item.

According to the document, in case an enterprise declares cinnamon essential oil for export as a medicinal material, it shall comply with the provisions of the pharmaceutical law. In case an enterprise declares cinnamon essential oil for export as food, food additives, cosmetics or other purposes, it shall compare the provisions of the food safety law and related fields to determine the corresponding management policy and resolve the procedures according to the regulations. In case of any problems beyond the authority, it shall report to the General Department of Customs for timely guidance and direction.

Previously, it was recorded that hundreds of tons of cinnamon essential oil could not be exported from the end of 2023 until now, causing difficulties for the cinnamon essential oil production industry.

Cinnamon is a key crop for poverty reduction in many localities. The cinnamon growing industry has grown strongly over the years, creating many products during the production process and cinnamon essential oil is one of the products recovered from the cultivation process. Although it is a poverty-reducing crop, people are at risk of falling back into poverty due to inappropriate regulations.
