The MICHELIN Guide has just announced its latest list tonight (June 27) including 164 dining establishments in Vietnam, up from 103 establishments introduced last year.

Of which, 2 new restaurants awarded 1 MICHELIN star are Akuna (Ho Chi Minh City) and La Maison 1888 (Da Nang); while The Royal Pavilion restaurant (Ho Chi Minh City) was upgraded to 1 MICHELIN star from the MICHELIN Selected list. The 1-star MICHELIN restaurants announced in 2023 in Vietnam - including Gia, Hibana by Koki, Tam Vi and Anan Saigon still retain their titles.

On this occasion, the MICHELIN culinary guide also recognized the first Vietnamese restaurant to receive the MICHELIN green star award, Nen Danang, for its commitment to the culinary field and sustainability. The Bib Gourmand list (good restaurants with affordable prices) in Vietnam has increased to 58 dining establishments - double that of last year, including 18 establishments in Hanoi, 24 establishments in Ho Chi Minh City and 16 establishments in Da Nang . In addition, 99 dining establishments (including 40 new establishments) are listed in the list selected by MICHELIN this year, including 33 establishments in Hanoi, 47 establishments in Ho Chi Minh City and 19 establishments in Da Nang .

According to Mr. Ha Van Sieu - Deputy Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, culinary tourism is currently a strategic direction of the Vietnamese tourism industry. "The tourism industry identifies cuisine as an outstanding strength, a typical product of regions, thereby enhancing the competitiveness and brand of Vietnamese tourism. After the announcement in 2023, over the past year we have recorded positive responses from tourists.

This year, the increasing number of restaurants in Vietnam appearing in the MICHELIN Guide is an important foundation showing that Vietnamese cuisine is recognized, meets international standards and is positioned as a global brand; thereby building trust and attracting tourists from all over the world to Vietnam."

Mr. Gwendal Poullennec - International Director of MICHELIN Guide said that the three cities of Vietnam including Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang all possess their own culinary colors: "Vietnam's culinary culture shows abundant energy, passion and creativity that constantly surprises the market. Besides the trend of famous chefs opening more restaurants in Vietnam, cooperating with the new generation of Vietnamese chefs to develop in a customer-centric direction. Therefore, Vietnam has truly become an attractive destination on the world culinary map in the eyes of tourists and diners."
