Scott announced in an interview with Fox News on the evening of November 12 that he was ending his presidential campaign for next year’s US election. His withdrawal could provide a slight boost to other candidates trying to dislodge former US President Donald Trump from the Republican Party’s top spot.

“I think the voters, the most important people on the planet, have been really clear that they are telling me: ‘Not now, Tim,’” Mr Scott said on the show.

The South Carolina senator launched his campaign in May, promising an optimistic, forward-looking vision for the United States, according to Reuters. Scott said he was better able to bridge the country’s political divide than Trump and another candidate, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

Mr. Scott made modest but measurable gains in polls in some states over the summer, but he failed to establish and defend his own path in a relatively crowded Republican field.

Like other candidates, Mr. Scott has never made it clear to Mr. Trump’s supporters why they should abandon the former president, who remains popular with most voters in primary polls.

Before Mr. Scott, another famous candidate on the Republican side, former Vice President Mike Pence, also dropped out of the race for the White House. With the latest development, 7 candidates are competing to win the nomination to be the presidential candidate of this party for next year's election.
