Candidate with 27.75 points in Nam Dinh still fails graduation: Principal explains

On the afternoon of July 19, Mr. Pham Thanh Ngoc, Principal of Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted ( Nam Dinh ) confirmed that the school had 4 candidates with a score of 0 in English for high school graduation. However, this is a case that is exempted from the exam according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training and the 2023 high school graduation exam regulations.

"Before the 2023 high school graduation exam, the Nam Dinh Department of Education and Training decided to exempt candidates with international language certificates that meet the prescribed requirements. According to the regulations on converting foreign language certificate scores, they will be counted as 10 points when considering high school graduation," said Mr. Ngoc. These students did not take the English exam in the last round.

The school where the students study has also reported to the Nam Dinh Department of Education and Training to collect information and review the display system to avoid errors for candidates.

Previously, public opinion was stirred up by the case of a candidate with high test scores who was at risk of failing high school graduation due to failing the English exam. Of the 6 candidates who received a score of 0 in English this year, 4 were students at Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted in Nam Dinh.

According to the exam score lookup system, candidate number 250001xx scored the following subjects: Math 9; Literature 8.25; Physics 7.75; Chemistry 9.25; Biology 9.5, but Foreign Language (English) scored 0 points. This candidate's admission score for group B00 is 27.75 (average 9.25 points/subject) and A00 is 26 points (average 8.67 points/subject).

Similarly, another candidate had admission scores for block A00 and B00 of 27.45 (average 9.15 points/subject) and 25.7 (average 8.57 points/subject), respectively.

Not only in Nam Dinh, according to the search system, a candidate in Thai Binh , although he got 10 points in History, 8.75 in Geography and 9.25 in Civic Education, got 1 point in English - a failing score.

In the 2023 high school graduation exam, English was the subject with the highest failing score of 192, followed by Math 123, Geography 112, Literature 92, Biology 36, History 38, Civics 26, Physics 23 and Chemistry 14.

According to statistics from the 2023 high school graduation exam scores, Hanoi recorded 76 failed exams (scores of 1 or lower), the highest in the country. This is the third consecutive year that Hanoi has ranked first in the number of failed exams (last year the city had 127 failed candidates). Next, Thanh Hoa continued to be in second place with 37 students and Ho Chi Minh City had 35 candidates.

Among 63 localities, only Vinh Phuc, Ben Tre, and Bac Lieu did not record any cases of candidates receiving a failing grade. Last year, Lai Chau was the only locality with no failing grades.
