Railway route through Quang Tri opens, first freight train tested

At 3:30 p.m. this afternoon (October 29), the railway through Quang Tri was repaired and the first freight train test run was successful.

According to Giao thong Newspaper reporters, at exactly 3:30 p.m., the first freight train successfully passed through the North-South railway section through Vinh Linh district (Quang Tri). This is the railway section damaged by floods after storm No. 6. At 5:15 p.m., the first passenger train also passed through.

The first freight train has passed safely through Quang Tri.

Mr. Le Hong Hai, Director of Binh Tri Thien Railway Joint Stock Company, said that the company and other railway units have mobilized a lot of equipment, materials and more than 150 officers and workers to urgently repair the heavily eroded railway section south of Sa Lung station on the North-South railway through Vinh Linh district, working continuously for 2 days, 24/7.

After the first freight train had successfully passed, Binh Tri Thien Railway Joint Stock Company had engineers check the entire route, then continued to let the second freight train pass in the opposite direction of the first freight train. The speed of the two freight trains on the test run was 5km/h.

When the second freight train was successful, Binh Tri Thien Railway Joint Stock Company continued to inspect the entire route and allowed passenger trains to operate at a speed of 5km/h.

The first freight train traveled at 5km/h through the newly repaired section of track.

Previously, on the evening of October 27, heavy rain due to the impact of storm No. 6 caused floodwaters to rise and overflow the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City railway line at Km 857+680 - Km 589 in Quang Tri province.

To ensure train safety, railway units have blocked the Sa Lung - Tien An section.

On the morning of October 28, the water had receded, revealing that the flood had eroded the roadbed and shifted the rails at Km 587+800 - Km 588+000, Km 588+500 - Km 588+900 in the Sa Lung bridge area (Vinh Linh district, Quang Tri province).

During the repair period, waiting for the route to be cleared, train passengers will continue to be transferred from Dong Hoi station ( Quang Binh ) to Dong Ha station (Quang Tri) and vice versa to continue their journey.
