According to Box Office Vietnam, as of the afternoon of March 1, Tran Thanh's film Mai had grossed over 501 billion VND with over 5 million tickets sold.

Last weekend alone, Mai earned more than 55 billion VND with more than 594 thousand tickets sold. With this figure, Mai became the highest-grossing Vietnamese film of all time.

With the revenue of Mrs. Nu's House (475 billion VND) and Bo Gia (427 billion VND), Tran Thanh owns unprecedented achievements in cinema. He is currently the first trillion-dollar director in Vietnam.

Mai is Tran Thanh's third film. The film marks the first collaboration between the male director and Phuong Anh Dao. Mai was invested with 50 billion VND.

Tran Thanh's

Tran Thanh's "Mai" earned more than 500 billion VND after 20 days of release.

The film revolves around the life of the female lead named Mai (Phuong Anh Dao), a nearly 40-year-old masseuse who accidentally meets musician Duong (Tuan Tran) and is pursued by him. Lacking self-confidence, Mai does not have the courage to accept the feelings of a guy 7 years her junior.

Compared to the two films Mrs. Nu's House and Bo Gia, Tran Thanh's Mai received the least mixed reviews. Tran Thanh showed a clear improvement, from the camera angle, scene transitions to storytelling. The film no longer has too many scenes of arguing and "market" dialogue between the characters. Mai is considered Tran Thanh's best film to date.

However, there is also a lot of controversy surrounding the ending that Tran Thanh chose. Many people praised Tran Thanh for bringing a very realistic ending, while others said that this ending was unsatisfactory and caused a lot of regret for the audience.
