The Telegraf newspaper reported that throughout the journey at EURO 2024, Serbia coach Dragan Stojkovic repeatedly emphasized that no incident had occurred in Germany. However, it was not until the Serbian team was eliminated after finishing bottom of Group C with only 2 points that everything became clear.
Surprisingly, the person who caused the incident was their number 1 goalkeeper Milinkovic Savic. He went to the bar when coach Dragan Stojkovic gave the players a day off before the "decisive match" with the Danish team.
The incident happened right before the decisive match between Serbia (white shirt) and Denmark.
“Serbian goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic Savic came to Munich on a day off. He went to a bar where many Serbs live. In addition, the neighborhood is where musicians from Serbia come and perform. When we found out, a Serbian fan asked him, ‘What are you doing here? You should be with your teammates and training. Why are you drinking?’ and Vanji probably didn’t like that. The goalkeeper cursed at the fan, walked towards him and punched him in the face! The bar’s security soon intervened, and the bar owner eventually got involved,” the Telegraf reported.
Immediately after the information was released, the Telegraf contacted the bar owner. This person confirmed the above incident was correct and asked to remain anonymous. The bar owner recounted: “Vanja came to our bar. However, the security at the entrance did not recognize him and did not want to let him in because he was wearing the national team shorts. Vanja was now angry and wanted to fight with the security forces. I quickly intervened, grabbed his hand and told him to come in with me, but he refused.
Then Vanja punched a fan. I didn’t hear the sound of things being thrown or the curses. But luckily everything was resolved.”

After the incident, Vanja Milinkovic Savic was detained for a few hours and then returned to the hotel. In the match against Denmark the following day, Vanja Milinkovic Savic was on the bench, the Serbian team also drew 0-0 and was eliminated.
Criticism now began to be directed at coach Dragan Stojkovic for lying throughout the tournament.
