Local media reported that senior officials in the new prime minister's caretaker government had previously stressed that the new government is expected to be formed in mid-September. It is likely that the current finance and foreign ministers will be retained in the new cabinet, but 11 new ministers and deputy ministers may be added.

Sorawong Thienthong, secretary-general of Ms Paetongtarn’s ruling Pheu Thai Party, said the new government would have slightly more parliamentary seats than its predecessor. He declined to comment on the new cabinet line-up.

After Srettha Thavisin was ousted from his post as prime minister by a court less than a month ago, the Pheu Thai Party quickly rallied support for its inexperienced leader, 38-year-old Paetongtarn. The Thai parliament elected her prime minister just days later.

Ms. Paetongtarn is Thailand's youngest female Prime Minister and the second woman and fourth member of her billionaire family to hold the position. Ms. Paetongtarn is the daughter of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, a major influence in Thai politics, who is still considered a key factor supporting the Pheu Thai Party.
