On August 4, Mr. Vu Le Thai Hoang, Vietnamese Ambassador to the Republic of Austria, paid a courtesy visit and worked with the Permanent Deputy Minister of Defense of Austria, Dr. Arnold Kammel.
At the meeting, Ambassador Vu Le Thai Hoang expressed his wish to promote substantive and effective Vietnam-Austria defense cooperation in line with the overall bilateral relations and cooperation between Vietnam and the European Union (EU), and affirmed that Vietnam consistently pursues a foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace , friendship, cooperation and development, multilateralization and diversification of foreign relations, persistently pursues the "four no's" defense policy, and persistently struggles to resolve all disputes and disagreements by peaceful means on the basis of international law.
Thanking the Austrian Government and Ministry of Defense for providing ODA support to Vietnam in recent years, including fire trucks and military hospital equipment, Ambassador Vu Le Thai Hoang welcomed the Austrian Government to continue providing ODA support to Vietnam in the coming time.
The Ambassador proposed that the two sides should promote the exchange of delegations at all levels, especially high-level ones, to enhance understanding and trust, thereby seeking specific cooperation in training, UN peacekeeping, research and study of the possibility of cooperation in defense industry, cyber security, disaster response and search and rescue, etc.

For his part, Deputy Minister Arnold Kammel expressed his good impression of his visit to Vietnam in July 2024 (representing the EU to attend the Launching Ceremony of the EU Common Security and Defense Policy Handbook in Vietnamese), affirming that Vietnam is an increasingly important partner of Austria in Southeast Asia and agreed to coordinate with the Vietnamese side to plan and prioritize specific steps to promote the two countries' defense cooperation to make substantial, practical and effective progress in the coming time.
Mr. Arnold Kammel said that Austria has more than 60 years of experience in UN peacekeeping operations, a developed defense industry, and is very interested in search and rescue work, and cooperation in dealing with non-traditional security challenges, especially cyber security.
Defense cooperation will contribute to deepening bilateral relations, towards the 55th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Austria diplomatic relations in 2027.
