Thousands of sparrows and swifts have been taken to a non-profit centre in Switzerland after soaring temperatures left them dehydrated.

Accordingly, the Ornithologique de Réadaptation center in the suburbs of Geneva, Switzerland received about 30 birds/day, most of them related to heat when the temperature exceeded 30 0 C in July.

The center’s founder, ornithologist Patrick Jacot, said the center has taken in more than 1,660 birds in the past six months. The birds are particularly vulnerable because they nest in hollow spaces, anywhere from porches to mailboxes, said Jacob. Their nesting sites are sometimes made of metal, which can easily melt under high temperatures.

Mr. P.Jacot added that the extreme temperatures have also affected food sources, making foraging for birds an extremely dangerous challenge.
