Reuters reported that the Federal Council's announcement stated that the country will participate in two projects under the Permanent Structured Cooperation Agreement on Defense (PESCO) of the European Union (EU).
Affirming that the decision to participate is in line with Switzerland's tradition of neutrality, the announcement said the security initiatives will facilitate the processing of documents on cross-border transport and movement and aim to improve cooperation on cyber defense.
Previously, the Swiss government also announced plans to join the European Cyber Security Organization (ECSO) to strengthen defenses against hackers and online attacks.
Earlier this year, Switzerland reported an increase in cyberattacks and disinformation in the run-up to a peace summit in Ukraine.
By joining ECSO, the Swiss government receives information on current technological developments and decisions, as well as access to a network of experts. ECSO has 300 members, from large and small companies, as well as universities, research centers and European governments.
