The Vietnam U22 team has entered its first training session in Ba Ria Vung Tau. This is the third gathering since the beginning of the year, aiming for three major goals: the Southeast Asian U23 Championship, the 2026 Asian U23 qualifiers and the 33rd SEA Games.

In this training session, Coach Kim Sang-sik has called up 35 players, many of whom are promising and have international experience. Notably, 8 players have contributed to the 2023 Southeast Asian U23 Championship.

In addition, the presence of two overseas Vietnamese players Le Viktor (Hong Linh Ha Tinh Club) and Bui Alex (Bohemians Praha 1905 B team, Czech Republic) is expected to bring new momentum to the Vietnam U22 team.

Sharing in the first training session with U22 Vietnam, striker Nguyen Quoc Viet said: "The whole team is excited to prepare for the U23 Southeast Asian tournament. Our spirit and health are very good. The players are focusing their maximum to prepare for this tournament."

The striker of Hoang Anh Gia Lai also said that the goal in this meeting is to try to show his best, play well, and complete the assigned tasks. "Many of them have experience from playing in the V-League or First Division. We will try to do our best" - the striker who just helped Ninh Binh Club get promoted to the V-League commented and affirmed.

Looking ahead to the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship to be held in July in Indonesia, Coach Kim has called up 35 players and will narrow the list down to 23 before they leave to defend their championship. Therefore, the players must compete to find a place on the list to go to Indonesia.

According to the plan, the U22 Vietnam team will continue training in Ba Ria Vung Tau until July 12, then move to Ho Chi Minh City to prepare for the flight to Indonesia on the morning of July 14. Having won the Southeast Asian U23 Championship twice in a row (2022, 2023), U22 Vietnam is considered one of the brightest candidates for this year's championship.

However, coach Kim Sang-sik emphasized: "Winning consecutive championships is something to be proud of, but instead of putting too much pressure on ourselves, we want to focus on doing our best in every match. I always encourage the players to see this tournament as an opportunity to grow and develop, rather than just aiming for results. The results, in my opinion, will be a natural consequence of that process."
