According to the Strait Times , all 180 primary schools in Singapore have implemented the Gifted Education Program (GEP), opening specialized and selective classes for excellent students, belonging to the top 1% of students.

Previously, good students in Singapore had to transfer to specialized schools, but now they can study in specialized classes right at their own schools.

The Singapore Ministry of Education said it is ready to support students in both academic and non-academic areas, helping outstanding students to reach their full potential and develop their personal strengths and interests.

“Many schools have developed their own programmes in other areas such as programming or design. All primary schools have specially trained teachers to teach these students,” the Singapore Ministry of Education said.

The lessons in these gifted classes are also tailored to suit the abilities of the students. “The focus of the lessons for gifted students changes from finding the right answer to approaching the problem by asking questions,” a gifted class teacher in Singapore told the Straits Times .

This teacher believes that the above changes contribute to nurturing students' curiosity, problem-solving ability, and developing critical thinking and creative thinking.

Since 1984, Singapore has piloted this program in some primary and secondary schools.

GEP is an Israeli model of gifted education, which aims to nurture gifted students to maximize their potential, cultivate higher-level thinking skills, self-learning ability, social responsibility and civic awareness.

Recently, Singapore Prime Minister Wong Tsun-tai announced that Singapore will continue to expand the GEP program, training 3,000 outstanding students each year.
