Nguyen Thi Van, who was honored with the Alumni Award for Economic Engagement, shared the profound impact that an Australian education had on her life. “An Australian education has helped me realise my potential. Not only have I gained more skills, but I have also gained more power and confidence. This has changed the way I lead and share with many other people with disabilities on their journey to a better life. I am determined to continue on the path I have chosen, inspired by my long-standing connection with Australia.”

“Australian alumni in Vietnam are valuable bridges between our two countries. The relationship between Australia and Vietnam is built on a solid foundation of strong people-to-people ties, deep economic links and a shared vision of a peaceful, stable and prosperous Indo- Pacific region.

With their experience and deep understanding of both countries, alumni play an important role in promoting mutual understanding and enhancing economic cooperation between Australia and Vietnam."

Ms. Gillian Bird, Australian Ambassador to Vietnam

The Australia-Vietnam Human Resources Development Program (Aus4Skills) has been operating for a decade with a key objective of enhancing understanding and connecting people-to-people ties, thereby promoting the comprehensive strategic partnership between Australia and Vietnam.

In addition to building and maintaining a strong alumni network, Aus4Skills also includes other important components such as Australian Government scholarships, vocational education , higher education capacity building, and enhancing public sector leadership capacity in Vietnam.

The program is an opportunity for alumni to review their time studying in Australia.

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy, Director of the Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Education and Training, affirmed the role of education in strengthening the relationship between the two countries: "Educational partnerships promote cultural understanding and strengthen the connection between the people of the two countries, contributing to strengthening the dynamic and close Australia - Vietnam relationship. With many opportunities to access global knowledge and skills, Australian alumni are actively contributing to the process of economic growth, modernization and international integration of Vietnam".

This Australian Alumni Awards and Reunion event is not only an opportunity for alumni to reunite and reminisce about their memorable time in Australia, but also a testament to the Australian Government’s continued support for the alumni network.

For more than half a century since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1973, education has always been a focus of cooperation between Vietnam and Australia. Currently, more than 160,000 former Vietnamese students who studied in Australia are working in both the public and private sectors, from central to local levels. They are key leaders and experts, making important contributions to the development of Vietnam and constantly promoting the good relationship between the two countries.
