General Secretary: Vietnam calls for lifting of embargo on Cuba

On the afternoon of November 2, at the Party Central Committee headquarters, General Secretary To Lam received Mr. Esteban Lazo Hernández, member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of Cuba, President of the Council of State, President of the National Assembly of Cuba, on the occasion of his working visit to Vietnam.
At the reception, General Secretary To Lam affirmed that the Party, State and people of Vietnam always attach importance to the close, exemplary comradely relationship, a rare example in international relations, which was cultivated by President Ho Chi Minh and Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro and generations of leaders of the two countries.

The General Secretary affirmed that Vietnam is determined to strongly strengthen and improve the effectiveness of comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, two countries and two peoples, for the benefit of the people of the two countries, for peace , stability and development in the world. Sharing the difficulties that the Party, State and people of Cuba are trying to overcome due to the blockade, embargo and incidents and natural disasters, General Secretary To Lam affirmed that Vietnam stands in solidarity with Cuba, calling for the removal of unilateral blockade and embargo measures against Cuba and removing Cuba from the list of countries sponsoring terrorism. At the meeting, General Secretary To Lam expressed his delight at the good development of Vietnam - Cuba relations in recent times, including the efforts and initial results to implement the agreements reached during the visit to Cuba, and welcomed the attention and direction of First Secretary, President of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel and Cuban leaders in concretizing the results of the visit with specific solutions and measures. The General Secretary agreed with the cooperation proposals of the President of the Cuban National Assembly in areas of both sides' strengths and needs, and suggested that the two countries continue to maintain exchanges and visits at all levels, strengthen cooperation between the National Assembly and Government of the two countries, and enhance people-to-people exchanges and cooperation between sectors and localities of the two countries. The President of the Cuban National Assembly highly appreciated Vietnam's international position and role, expressed his impression of Vietnam's strong development through his visits to Vietnam, and firmly believed that Vietnam would continue to achieve its set goals. Mr. Esteban Lazo Hernández once again affirmed that General Secretary To Lam's visit to Cuba was a great source of encouragement and sharing for Cuba in difficult circumstances, and informed that the leaders of the Cuban Party and State regularly directed the implementation of agreements reached during the visit, and implemented specific measures to help remove difficulties in economic, trade and investment cooperation between the two countries. The President of the Cuban National Assembly affirmed the solidarity and special affection of the Cuban Party, Government and people towards Vietnam, and thanked them for their support and assistance to the Cuban people in recent times. Mr. Esteban Lazo Hernández expressed his hope that the two countries will continue to strengthen and promote cooperation in all fields, with political and diplomatic relations being the core, promoting the exchange of delegations at all levels, enhancing the exchange of experiences and cooperation between the Governments, National Assemblies and localities of the two countries in the coming time.
