Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian told reporters that preparations are underway for Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi's visit to Turkmenistan, IRNA news agency reported.

Recently, Turkmenistan President Serdar Berdimuhamedov personally received Iran's top diplomat in the capital Ashgabat. During the meeting, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian emphasized the importance and priority of developing relations with neighboring countries, especially Turkmenistan, in Iran's foreign policy.
“We agreed to develop cooperation in the fields of energy, transport, communication, science and technology,” Hossein Amir-Abdollahian added, adding that “trade between Iran and Turkmenistan could see a significant leap” in the coming weeks.
Reporting on the meeting, Turkmenistan's Altyn Asyr TV said President Berdimuhamedov affirmed that Iran has traditionally been one of the country's most important partners.
The head of state emphasized the role of the Joint Economic Cooperation Group, which operates on the basis of agreeing on specific measures to strengthen cooperation in the fields of electricity and transport.
Earlier, there was information that Turkmenistan and Iran were preparing to sign a 20-year intergovernmental cooperation agreement.
The two neighbors have jointly implemented a number of major infrastructure projects, including the Dostluk dam and the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway, as well as cross-border gas pipelines and power lines.
