During the 78th annual session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York (USA) on September 21, President Abbas said: "It would be wrong to assume that peace can exist in the Middle East when the Palestinian people do not enjoy full and legitimate national rights."

In particular, he expressed his desire to make Palestine a full member of the United Nations, and called on countries to recognize Palestine's statehood.

In addition, Mr. Abbas also requested to organize an international peace conference, with the participation of all countries interested in achieving peace in the Middle East. Accordingly, the Palestinian President asked UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres to prepare the necessary conditions for the conference.
