The Hue Monuments Conservation Center has piloted a network of smart interactive stations to create new experiences for visitors when visiting the ancient capital's heritage sites.

On December 5, the Hue Monuments Conservation Center announced that it has piloted a network of smart interactive stations - TapQuest, applying technology to enhance the experience for visitors when visiting the relics of the Hue Monuments Complex.

Specifically, after a successful pilot implementation at Hai Van Quan relic (since September), the Hue Monuments Conservation Center has deployed smart interactive station technology in the Imperial Citadel area, before the event of Thai Hoa Palace officially announcing the completion of the project and opening to visitors after 3 years of restoration, on November 23.

Smart interactive stations are physical panels equipped with near-field communication (NFC) chips, which tourists can tap their phones to connect to the historical and cultural stories of each location with a variety of rich forms of expression including: images, videos , 3D models, text, and guides using artificial intelligence.

At each location, visitors are also provided with a travel itinerary and guided to the next attraction. Taking check-in photos and posting their own images on the “golden board” of each location is also an extremely popular function, in which visitors can “carve their names on the digital wall” of each location without spoiling the beauty of the scenic spots, and also help each location promote tourism, creating a positive impact on the locality. In addition, visitors can also participate in interesting tasks to receive attractive rewards…

Each interactive smart station acts as a “digital tour guide” that can provide a variety of amenities and necessary support for visitors. These stations are linked together in a seamless experience, forming a comprehensive cultural and heritage experience map that is highly customizable and has unlimited development potential.

Applying technology to tell historical and cultural stories and increase the level of interaction between visitors and each construction, relic, and heritage has only recently received investment attention, pioneering that trend and suitable for the context of cultural tourism in Vietnam.

At the Imperial Citadel tourist site, this new technology has received strong response from both domestic and foreign tourists, with more than 2,500 interactions after only 2 weeks of implementation.

Prospects of smart interactive station network across Hue city

In September 2024, smart interactive station technology was piloted at Hai Van Quan, after the place reopened to visitors following a joint restoration process between Hue and Da Nang. This place, known as “The most majestic pass in the world”, immediately attracted many domestic and foreign tourists to visit.

Standing on Hai Van Quan, visitors not only feel like they are standing on three layers of clouds, looking at the majestic mountains and rivers, the west is covered with mountains and mist, the east is the vast ocean covered with gold and silver, looking to the north is the dreamy Hue, a golden ancient capital, looking to the south is Da Nang, a bustling city with a prosperous life. Moreover, visitors can now touch the smart interactive stations at 9 important points of Hai Van Quan to connect with the story and leave beautiful images of themselves on the "digital wall" of this historic pass.

Not stopping at Hai Van Quan and the Imperial City, the Hue Monuments Conservation Center is planning to expand the deployment of smart interactive station technology to more relic areas, thereby creating an overall map linking all areas, helping visitors have a seamless experience throughout and increasing the depth of interaction with many functions added later.

According to the Hue Monuments Conservation Center, in the coming time, the center will continue to coordinate with the solution provider Phygital Labs to develop a smart interactive network for Hue culture and heritage, with the expectation of deploying the completed model at all cultural and heritage sites in Hue City under the Central Government before the event of hosting the National Tourism Year and Hue Festival in March 2025.
