Deploying high frequency radio wave liver tumor ablation technique at Ha Giang General Hospital

Ha Giang General Hospital, Tuyen Quang province has just implemented a high-frequency radio wave ablation intervention for liver tumors. This is the first time this technique has been implemented at the hospital to create conditions for patients to have more options in treating liver cancer.

The team of doctors from the Oncology Department and the Diagnostic Imaging Department of Ha Giang General Hospital coordinated to successfully perform radiofrequency ablation for a 38-year-old male patient with chronic hepatitis B and a 3.2cm liver tumor under ultrasound guidance. After about 1 hour of performing the procedure, the intervention went smoothly, without complications. The patient is currently recovering well and is expected to be discharged after 2 days.

Doctors performing the intervention said that radiofrequency ablation of liver tumors is a minimally invasive treatment method, using radiofrequency energy to generate heat and destroy liver cancer cells, with few complications and quick recovery for patients.

This method is increasingly being widely applied in many medical facilities; Ha Giang General Hospital is one of the few hospitals in the Northern mountainous region implementing this technique.

This method is indicated for patients with primary liver cancer; inoperable liver cancer due to underlying disease, child A/B cirrhosis; liver metastases from colon, lung... with small size and small quantity; especially for patients who cannot have surgery.

Liver tumors with tumors too close to large blood vessels, severe liver failure, severe blood clotting disorders, uncontrolled infections, severe ascites, or widespread extrahepatic metastases cannot be treated with radiofrequency ablation.

The implementation of radiofrequency ablation of liver tumors confirms the interest in researching and applying new and difficult techniques. This helps reduce the number of cases requiring referrals, helping people reduce travel time and costs.
