Prospects from organic rice production model

Established in mid-2023, Tan Hung Agricultural and Forestry Service and Trade Cooperative (HTX) was established with 9 members, led by Mr. Vi Van Mung (San Chay ethnic group, in Vu Bon commune) as Director with the goal of focusing on producing 3 types of high-quality rice varieties: Dai Thom 8, ST24, ST25 in an organic direction.

The cooperative's rice growing area is located in a semi-mountainous area, with land and soil conditions not as favorable as in many other places. Director Vi Van Mung has been busy contacting and connecting with material suppliers and experts to organize many field workshops, transferring science and technology to people to master farming techniques. Thanks to that, cooperative members are more confident in production, applying new techniques, investing in intensive farming, increasing crops, sharing experiences, supporting each other with seeds, capital, etc. to develop the rice growing area.

“The land does not fail the people,” Mr. Mung could not hide his joy. He confided that the same field, still with the same old crops, but with the new production thinking and new ways of doing things of the cooperative, has been continuously successful, season after season, productivity and output have continuously increased, and efficiency.

The cooperative currently has 9 members and 88 associate members, 100% of whom are ethnic minorities, with 200 hectares of land devoted to growing specialty rice varieties Dai Thom 8, ST24, ST25. The cooperative links, supplies agricultural materials, and consumes rice products for cooperative members and rice farmers in neighboring localities... On average, each year the cooperative harvests 10,000 tons of fresh rice, which is purchased directly from the fields by factories in Long An province (now Tay Ninh), Dong Thap, Can Tho city... at a price of 10,000 - 10,500 VND/kg. At times, many units and businesses are willing to buy rice produced by the cooperative at a price 100 - 200 VND/kg higher than the market price.

Currently, Tan Hung Agricultural and Forestry Service and Trading Cooperative is producing high-quality rice, promoting the development of OCOP rice products, becoming a specialized high-quality rice growing area of Dak Lak province.
